Many of the members of our community will have questions about JewishColumbus. Below are answers to some of the most common ones.

Q:What is JewishColumbus?

A:A new organization created from the integration of the former Jewish Federation of Columbus (Federation) and the Columbus Jewish Foundation (Jewish Foundation). JewishColumbus represents a new way of thinking about Jewish philanthropy, supporting community needs, and how to engage the next generation of philanthropists and leaders.

Q:Why is this new organization being formed now?

A:Jewish life and philanthropy have changed. Our great community has also grown and evolved, and our needs today are different than they were decades ago. JewishColumbus will leverage our community’s strong history and roots to meet our community’s needs now and in the future.

Q:Why did we choose the name JewishColumbus?

A: In conjunction with a marketing consultant, a handful of possible names were developed. Based on data from a community survey to select a new name, JewishColumbus stood out based on a handful of factors.

Q:What does JewishColumbus stand for?

We are:

  • Steadfast in keeping Jewish values and history at the forefront of everything we do
  • Grounded by the belief that everyone is welcome to engage when, how and where it matters most to them
  • Stronger together, capable of breaking down obstacles like geography, age and background in order to successfully connect our thriving Jewish community

Q:How is JewishColumbus the same as the former Federation and Jewish Foundation?

A:

We will continue to:

  • Raise dollars through the Annual Campaign
  • Be a resource for planned giving
  • Fund community programs and needs
  • Host events and programming

Q:How will JewishColumbus be different?

A:JewishColumbus will become an example of how historical Jewish organizations can adapt, innovate and thrive in the 21st century. With a focus on cause-based philanthropy, we can have holistic conversations on Jewish and global causes and how to best fund community needs. Additionally, the collective strength of JewishColumbus will enable a greater emphasis on growing the next generation of Jewish leaders and philanthropists.

Q:How will this integration affect my fund at the former Jewish Foundation?

A:Legally, donor funds cannot be accessed to supplement JewishColumbus. From staff to governance, multiple safeguards are already in place to ensure and protect the integrity of our donors’ assets.

Q:How can I become involved with JewishColumbus?

A:Whether you have been involved with the former Federation and/or Jewish Foundation for years, or you are new to the Columbus Jewish community, we welcome you to JewishColumbus, and stand ready to discuss your interests.
