Community Impact

About us

JewishColumbus aims to inspire, grow and sustain Jewish life in Columbus, Israel and around the world — nurturing and connecting our vibrant, diverse community. We convene and invest in our community so that every Jew in Central Ohio embraces our role in building a bright Jewish future. In order to keep our community energetic, growing and safe, we keep our finger on the pulse of our community’s most pressing needs. Using our collective resources, we also anticipate and plan for the future.

JewishColumbus partners with local agencies, schools, synagogues, Israel and overseas partners to maximize our impact with available funding from the Annual Campaign and endowment fund resources. The Community Impact Committee (CIC) brings together and gathers stakeholders to lead the community in establishing a vision that is innovative and reflective of this collaborative brain trust.

CIC aims to create the best of all possible worlds for our greater Columbus Jewish Community. Our process is designed to best meet our partner agencies’ funding needs and strategic initiatives. We come from a place of partnership, understanding and acknowledging that the organizations we fund know their businesses best.

The Community Impact Committee (CIC) recommends funding in two categories: allocations and grants.

Allocations from the Annual Campaign

Local

Israel and Overseas

Security

On top of these allocations, JewishColumbus funds security at congregations (Shabbat and holiday services and during religious school), the Columbus Jewish Day School and Columbus Torah Academy, the Jewish Community Center (College Avenue, New Albany and Worthington sites) and OSU Hillel.

Grants

Grants are funded by endowments and special purpose funds held at the Columbus Jewish Foundation, a JewishColumbus partner. The Community Impact Committee (CIC) considers grants for new programs and those that are funded by designated resources, including Community Grants, Jewish Arts, Jewish Education & Literacy, Jewish Needs and Social Justice. Also falling under CIC are Shalom Grants, Israel & Overseas Needs and Israel Environmental Programs, Holocaust Survivors Initiative, JCC Jewish Cultural Arts and service-area and organization directed programs.

Funding Cycle

The FY23 funding process is in full gear and applications for new grants for local and Israel & Overseas non-profit organizations are closed.

Limited funding is available for mini-grants of $2,500 or less for local programs in the area of Jewish Arts, defined as the art, not the artist.  If your organization is planning a Jewish arts program more than eight weeks out, please reach out to us at impact@jewishcolumbus.org for information on how to apply for a mini-grant.

Check back in August 2024 for information about our FY24 funding process.
